Faiths in Conversation
is an interfaith dialogue program in Dallas, Texas that Rav Hanan was instrumental in creating. It enriches the lives of both Jews and Gentiles by introducing each to the texts, interpretations and faith insights of the other. Monthly interfaith seminars and interfaith bible study are held in different houses of worship throughout the Greater Dallas area.

Journey Towards the Other
Here is catalogued the personal journey of Rav Hanan as a Zionist settler in Alon Shvut-Gush Etzion in the biblical inheritance of the tribe of Judah-reaching across the divide to the Palestinian other.
His spiritual transformation has brought him into contact with hundreds of Muslim and Christian Palestinians, and moved him to collaborate with others who have been similarly transformed, to create Roots/Shorashim/Judur, the Israeli Palestinian Grassroots Initiative for Understanding, Nonviolence and Transformation.
This initiative enriches the lives of Palestinians and Israeli settlers by bringing them together to encounter the other and to open themselves up to the wildly different ways in which they each interpret past, present and future. The goal is personal transformation that creates room for acceptance of the other and his needs, ultimately preparing the ground for neighbors to live in fulfillment and harmony. Watch Rav Hanan and his partner Ali Abu Awwad speak about their efforts here.

A Prayer for Yud Zayin bTamuz

Prayer for Those not Fasting on the 17th of Tamuz
For the miracles, and for the salvation, and for the mighty deeds, and for the victories, and for the wonders that you performed for our ancestors in those days at this time:
In the days of our ancestors long ago, we were exiled from our land and our land was destroyed a first time and a second time. In the days of the second Temple, the end came near on that painful day when the walls of our holy city were breached, and for more than two thousand years we fasted and wept on this day as we remembered our bitter fate.
And behold, in our generation You have shined your countenance upon us and we, the dispersed of Israel, have merited to be gathered in from all the lands of the world to the beloved land, Your inheritance, to work its soil, to build it from its ruins and to raise it up from its desolation. We have returned even to Jerusalem our holy city and built it for Your glory.
We have removed the yoke of the nations from our necks and merited to establish the State of Israel, the beginning of the flowering of our redemption.
We have been as dreamers, our mouths are filled with song and cries of gladness – behold, it is true and established, You have transformed sorrow to joy, and in our day the prophecy of Your prophet Zechariah is being fulfilled:
Thus says the Lord of Hosts: The fast of the fourth and the fast of the fifth and the fast of the seventh and the fast of the tenth will be for the House of Judah for joy and for gladness, and for happy festivals - and love truth and peace. (Zechariah 8:19)
Our Father who is in Heaven, Rock of Israel and its Redeemer, please help all the diverse strands of Your people to understand and recognize the great miracle and to know that this is no longer a time of mourning but a time of joy and thanksgiving to Your great name.
